The Edmonton region is home to Alberta's Industrial Heartland, one of the largest petrochemical clusters in North America. This concentration of development represents approximately C $25 billion of industrial investment built primarily on the petrochemical industry.
The Heartland employs highly educated people and one of the most productive petrochemical workforces in Canada. It is a reliable international source of chemical feedstocks at competitive prices.
Given the concentrations of heavy industry, the Heartland is capable of ensuring continued growth for a period of 20 to 50 years. Industrial leaders such as Agrium, Williams Energy, Keyera Energy, Canexus Chemicals, Degussa Canada, Dow Chemical, Gulf Chemicals and Metallugical, Praxair, Shell Canada, Shell Chemical, Sherritt International and Westaim have already invested billions of dollars in the region. We will see another $20 billion targeting the upgrading of oil sands bitumen over the next five to ten years, including five announced upgraders and several pipeline companies servicing and providing feedstock to the upgraders.
The proximity of the Aurum Energy Park to the highways that service Alberta's Industrial Heartland makes it an ideal site for companies providing goods and services to the petrochemical, oil and gas industries.
